My secret nighttime habit
Plus Australian TV recommendations and a gross but fascinating TikTok account
Hi friends,
My secret: I listen to podcasts as I fall asleep. I wear headphones that are designed for sleeping (Amazon link) and I put on a podcast. Audiobooks work too but trying to find your place again after you dozed off is a losing game. Some of my go-to nighttime podcasts are educational in some way, including Cautionary Tales, Oologies, and Throughline. I used to listen to true crime and frankly, I do not recommend (I had one or two dreams were… not pleasant). I’ll often have to go back and finish the episodes during the day, but there is something about the routine of putting on the headphones, putting on a show, and settling in that alerts my brain that it’s time to sleep and I’m usually out within minutes. So, I’d like to know: does anyone else do this and what do you like to listen to? You can leave a comment on this post or reply to this email :)
Let’s get into the recs!
🗡️ The Traitors! I’ve talked about the UK version before but my obsession has continued. We just watched season one of the Australian version and it’s very, very satisfying. Around halfway through this first season, there is some incredible gameplay that is thrilling and so fun to watch. If you haven’t watched any version of the show yet, I do recommend the UK one to start with but the Australian one is equally as great. I am probably subconsciously bringing this up again because I need more people in my life to watch this show. Both versions are on Peacock! Nudge, nudge.
🌊 I started watching Class of ‘07 on a whim without knowing a thing about it and was pleasantly surprised with how funny and sweet it is. It’s an Australian show (I’m sensing a theme here) focusing on a group of women who all went to high school together. They are stuck with one another when the apocalypse hits during their high school reunion and they have to rely on one another to survive. It resurfaces old feelings from high school and how we often carry them with us into our adult lives. It’s weird, it’s hilarious, it’s full of heart!
🤳 Lastly, it’s time for a section I should start referring to as “signs that I spend too much time on my phone” but I have a weird and kind of gross social account that I have to share. It’s Nate The Hoof Guy! Once a video came up on my feed, I couldn’t look away and the algorithm took care of the rest. It’s satisfying to watch him scrape away at the hooves and clean them up, knowing he’s helping these sweet cows. He has a soothing voice that reminds me of Marc Summers on Unwrapped and it’s very informative. I know more about hooves than I ever thought I would! It’s inspired parody posts like people scraping away at a pint of ice cream. I won’t embed a post here because of the yuck factor but if you’re curious, check him out.
🐾 And last but not least, Ginger:

Happy Easter if that applies to you or happy Sunday (or both!) and thanks for reading,
