Hi! We’ve spent a lot of our time battling a mouse invasion in our home this week and the saga is not over. On the plus side, it has forced me to do a lot of deep cleaning that feels good to have done. Thank you all for reading and sharing my newsletter.
🏃 My current treadmill show (show that I watch while on the treadmill at the gym because wow running/walking on the treadmill is boring) is Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over, a documentary series that is on YouTube. In each episode, Stacey Dooley, a TV presenter/journalist visits a different family in the UK and spends a couple of nights with them. In some shape or another, the families live a lifestyle outside of what we typically see in the mainstream and Stacey visits to learn about them and address common stereotypes. For instance she visits a family who follow a “tradwife” lifestyle and another that live off the grid. This is the first episode I watched about an upperclass family:
🕵️♀️ Like many people, the Kate Middleton story has gripped me this week and I’ve been unable to pull myself out of the rabbit holes it has led me down. The part that is most interesting to witness is the way the royals have fumbled their media relations, and if you’ve ever watched The Crown or read Harry’s memoir, you’ll know how heavily they rely on and work to maintain a special relationship with the press. This running timeline of all the events leading up to where we are is a long but enlightening read and I wish her the best because I cannot imagine facing this level of scrutiny while trying to get well.
☘️ Lastly, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, this TikTok reminded me of a delightful bit of Irish lore—there is a service station named for Barack Obama in Ireland. The connection is that Obama had a great-grandfather who lived in the area many years ago (according to Wikipedia) and in light of TikTok potentially going away, it’s nice to see the Irish Obama song resurfacing if you haven’t heard it:
